1878: Photographer Eadweard Muybridge uses high-speed stop-motion photography to capture a horse’s motion. The photos prove that the horse has all four feet in the air during some parts of its stride. The shots settle an old argument and start a new medium and industry.

Animated GifAn animated gif is a selection of moving images put together really fast to look as if the images are moving. There are now apps out for iPhone/ Androids that make it easier to create animated gifs, a good one in particular: MoPho.
The website gifmelter allows you to take the URL of an animated GIF and distort it different ways. You can put the gif at the front of the page and move it around and the image repeats and makes it look kind of like an optical illusion. Here are some examples: |

My Moving Images
Evaluation of our moving images
I think out moving images all went well although some could have been thought through more as you can slightly tell its different pictures rather than a moving image.
I think the one of Charlotte 'flying' is our best as it looks like a video, we did this by taking different images of her jumping in the air as she moved along for each picture to make it look like she is moving from left to right. I think the moving image that went the least well was the one of Branwen chasing her shoes as it moves slightly too fast from one place to another therefore it makes it look like images.

Gifmelter
If you click on the link to the left it will take you to gifmelter where you can edit your gifs by melting the backgrounds etc.. I have done a few examples of this below. All of the gifmelters went well as it is a very free and creative experience and there is no right or wrong image, also you can completely change your image by distorting it.
Time Lapse
Time lapse is when a number of different images are taken over a certain period of time and can be edited together like a short film, like the one Sam Taylor made.
They can also be just different pictures. The image to the left is a time lapse that has been taken in the four different seasons.
The reason they have used a tree for this is because in autumn leaves fall off the trees and in summer there are lots of brightly coloured leaves etc... So it clearly shows that they have been taken in four different periods of time.

Here as an example our class over a 2 hour period. One picture was taken every 10 seconds and they were edited together. Here is the outcome:

Above is a Youtube video done by Sam Taylor- Wood it shows what happens to a bowl of fruit over a long period of time. Sam Taylor must have taken hundreds of pictures a day to show every little change. I think its significant that the pen has been put next to the fruit to show that its changing.

Bottle from Kirsten Lepore on Vimeo. BottleI like this stop motion because it's very interesting as it tells a story. Every movement is very precise and sharp so the image actually looks like an actual video rather than a sequences of images.

Hudson - Against The Grain from Dropbear on Vimeo. Against the grainI like this stop motion because everything used in the video is something you could use at home. The creator of it has managed to use objects as simple as pencils and make the video look so interesting and complex.
