My Personal Project #1
What is mobile photography?
Mobile photography is taking pictures using a device that is not made for taking picture, e.g ipod, ipad, i phone etc
"It's creativity in your pocket. Capturing fleeting moments at the touch of a button has never been easier and artier."

"Look around you, and fall in love with tiny details. Learn to create meanings where others wouldn't see a thing". Sion Fullana is a professional photographer, journalist and filmmaker living in New York City. He was born in Majorca, and lived in Barcelona and San Antonio de los Baños, where he graduated in film directing at the prestigious EICTV. He directed two short films that made the festival circuits around the world, worked as a TV reporter, and moved to Manhattan in 2006, where he found a strong new career/vocational path as a photographer / street photographer that changed his life forever.

I have found a photographer called Sion Fullana who has 50 images on his blog with different colours, textures and effects. I like his work because he really captures the true meaning of mobile photography. I have chosen one of my favourite images and one of my least favourite...
This is a video explaining mobile photography and explains how it is 'the next generation of photography'.
Mobile Photo Group
If you click on the image to the left you will find a website called 'mobile photo group' which is a website that connects many different mobile photographers together to share their photos. My favourite photographer on this website is Sion Fullana because his photographs really capture the effect of mobile photography, as most are taken in the street at the perfect moment, almost as if the people in the pictures are posing for the photo.
My Favourite ImageI like this image because the woman with the newspaper on her head is in focus and the background of the image is out of focus, so your attention is on the woman. Showing the simplicity of the woman and madness around her. This looks like it has been taken at just the right moment and it has worked really well considering it was not taken with a professional camera. I also like that the photo is very dull and grey similar to the weather.

My Least Favourite ImageThis image is my least favourite image because it's quite boring and simple. Although there are many people in the image, it looks very staged and there is nothing about this image that you would remember. I think that this picture should have been taken in colour because it would have made it more interesting and nicer to look at.

Tim Walker & Cartier-Bresson Exhibition
While studying 'Mobile photography' we went on a trip to two exhibitions. The task was to answer some questions about Tim Walker and Cartier-Bressons work in the exhibitions, here are my answers:
Tim Walker
Tim Walkers attitude towards photography is very weird and unique because he uses props and objects that are over sized which makes the photos seem like a fairy tale. He did it to create a story through his pictures completely using his imagination. I also think that the exhibition was very kooky and fun. The reason why I liked it was because each photo was linked to each other and he put each prop he used in his images in the exhibition which made it more interesting.
Many different stories are told but they are all very unrealistic because they are from his imagination. I think many were inspired by true life events but he has put his own twist on them. He seems to focus on one (usually vibrant) colour in the image and everything is very symmetrical and neat (looks very well thought out). Tim Walker creates a mostly happy atmosphere in his pictures but in some of the more mystical images they seem to be more dark and mysterious.
It promotes fashion well because the background of the picture is very dull and the item of clothing is usually very vibrant and in focus (contrasting with the background)
Although the fairy tale aspect of it can sometimes distract us from the fashion (clothing)
Cartier-Bresson
The ‘decisive moment’ in photography is when the photographer waits and takes the picture at the perfect moment. This has been used in street photography because the photographer waits for the right time and wait till the moment is so significant that is tells a story and nothing in the process is staged or faked. Cartier-Bresson distrusted colour because maybe he wanted to be different from other photographers and look more in depth in to the story in the image rather than focusing on colour.
The photographs were scattered around the exhibition, they did not look as if they were in any particular order or were structured in any way.
Challenges: People are always moving in the street and you may have to wait for long time to capture the perfect moment.
Advantages: Everything is realistic and natural and you may see the unexpected.
Many of the images were very good but my favourite was the image taken during the crash with the twin towers as it shows a man completely unaware of the fact it has happened. This image was a perfect example of the ‘decisive moment’ because is was taken at the perfect moment.
